Written by Wim Zoomer and Rob Borgmann, ‘Printing Flat Glass’ is a book that connects screen printing with the application of architectural glass. In other words: Printed flat glass can be used for both aesthetical and functional purposes. The book discusses a number of architectural objects, designed by architects or visual artists and several flat glass applications. Currently, also digital printing can be used. A striking example is the impressive image on the cover of ‘Printing Flat Glass’, depicting a few of the totally 2,244 glass panes covering the façade of the Dutch Institute of Sound and Vision in Hilversum. After printing trichromatically the glass was provided with a third dimension by fusing, using special and unique moulds. Glass is often used to accomplish artwork as well. Flat glass can be tinted and decorated with enamel using spray coating, roller coating and screen printing. After applying and drying the enamel the object is fired by exposure to a high temperature to fuse the enamel to the glass surface. In brief, the generously illustrated reference book, ‘Printing Flat Glass’ is a book that belongs on your bookshelf.
